In the body, certain fluids are acidic or alkaline, depending on their role. Digestive juices, for example, are acidic (pH<7), which allows them to break down food. As for the blood, it should be slightly alkaline (pH=7.4). pH measures the acidity or basicity of a solution*. The pH of body fluids is regulated by the presence of “buffer” systems that mediate changes, primarily acidification related to cellular metabolism and ingestion of acids in the diet.
Minerals in a citrate form have the advantage of being bioavailable. In particular, Zinc in Citrate form contributes to normal acid-base metabolism, by intervening in the body's major buffer system, thus participating in the balance of blood pH.
